ALMA Integrated Computing Team Coordination & Planning Meeting #2 Santiago, 28-29 January 2014 Control Group Planning Rafael Hiriart, Control Group Lead

Status since ICT-CPM1(Apr 2013) 2 open positions filled (Rachel & Patrick), one remaining open. CONTROL/OBOPS position now under NRAO's Web App Group. Alexis hired by NRAO SW test group. 3 releases delivered (10.2, 10.4, 10.6), which included Correlator support for more than 16 calibrations. TMCDB versioning improvements (CLI interface to retrieve history). Address DataCapturer memory issues with Pointing table. Fast scanning (delivered with Ralph's mission to the OSF). Full correlator data rates (Rodrigo's mission to the OSF). DataCapturer relational database. First version of the phasing loop (Matias' mission to the OSF). New Quicklook GUI. ASDM Ephemeris table.

Cumulative New Features

Cumulative Bugs

Status (2), about testing New NRAO testing group was formed, covering ALMA and CASA testing (i.e., this group will cover both ALMA data production and validation). Socorro and Charlottesville STEs now have same configuration than OSF. They are also synchronizing with the same build. Problems can be more easily reproduced. Simulation improvements allow us to test more, more easily. Simulation tests running daily in Socorro. We are working with IRM on the automatization of tests, and the inclusion of CSV test SBs and scripts. This should help freeing ADC resouces, which can then help us on getting more bugs fixed.

Risks & Issues Since April 2013, 237 bug tickets have been submitted, we have resolved 105 and 20 are in progress. Delta = 112. More tickets have been submitted that we have been able to handle. What to do about it? We haven't reached a stable point in the project lifecycle. Rate of tickets should decrease at some point. New hires (Patrick & Rachel) are coming up to speed. When APP ramps down, Matias can also help. Implement code reviews with ADC. Improve their knowledge of some areas of the Control SW.

Risks & Issues (2) Avoid introducing more bugs with new features. Implement internal code reviews. A second pair of eyes will be reviewing software modifications, and policing documentation and code test coverage. This will also help on decreasing risk on areas where only one developer have been involved. It will also help getting our new hires up to speed. With CSV reducing its activities (2 week ES, 1 CSV block), the project is reaching a point where stability is becoming more important than pushing new capabilities.

Risks & Issues (3) Emphasis will be on getting longer baselines working. We may need to improve algorithms used for WVR correction. We may discover hitherto hidden timing problems. BL correlator subarrays is a big capability! The End of Commissioning worry us some. We do have good communication/relationships with CSV. We should maintain this in full operations. ADC doesn't have resouces for new FrontEnd developments. We need to take over these modules.
