Viking homes were mainly made out of wood and straw. They had no windows. They only had one small room with a fire stone in the middle. Where they lived was covered in forests so it was easier to get wood. Because of this Vikings had lots of wood to make things with (especially houses). The walls are made of wood and the roofs were made of a thatch of straw or reeds.

Many Vikings were good sailors because they lived close to rivers and sailed often. A big Viking longboat would be about 30 metres long and were made from overlapping planks of oak wood. They could carry about 60 men. The sails are normally red and white or red and yellow. The boats contained many shields on the sides of them to protect them. The front normally has a mythical creatures head on the front and a tail on the back.

Men wore tunics and trousers and women wore a long dress with a pinafore over it. Their clothes were fastened with belts and brooches. Women, with the help of children, made the wool into yarn and used natural dyes from plants to give it colour. Their shoes were boots and sandals and they were made out of goat skin or leather..
