4 Warm-up (period 4 read “Charles” by Shirley Jackson) 1. Who is the main character of the story “Charles” by Shirley Jackson? Is it Laurie, Charles, or even Laurie’s mother? 2. Why do you think that this is the main character? 3. What are your thoughts about Laurie’s mom? 4. How do you know that she is not a reliable narrator?

5 Read “Lamb to the Slaughter” 1. First, just read. Enjoy. 2. When you are finished, make a table 3. Write in line numbers for quotes that describe each character. MaryPatrick Physical Appearance Emotions/thoughts Physical Actions
