The goals of incorporating AYV into their work with young people. Convincing the community to change their negative attitude towards the youths and regard them as useful and very important group of people to their communities. To equip the youths with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them handle the various challenges that they face and to prepare them to compete favourably in the new world. To use the skills that we shall gain to support one of the projects we are participating in with another school abroad. Use the activities of the project to provide opportunity to other students/youths in our school to participate in online collaborative projects. The students in our school will be availed the opportunity to communicate with other people beyond the school and learn from them.
3
How is youth media relevant to your current work with youths? Exchanging media pieces with other youths will lead to sharing of that media that would otherwise not be accessible ( when teaching and the media you need is not available e.g. a picture of a desert environment you can get it from a partner school in the project Can help as a source of exposure to the youths to other opportunities that exist else where ( e.g. the youths will be exposed to which other crops can be grown and earn a profit other than the Bananas that are is dominant in our area) 3 Through use of pictures and media the learners will be motivated to learn on their own
4
What unique experiences and perspectives do you bring to the workshop? We are already participating in a schools tele collaborative project, one of the planned activities is a photograph project, we have sent photographs of our school and photos of the learners and received photos from our partners in Whitby, we sent them our school map and they sent theirs, although they had differences there were many similarities eg the Field, classes and school garden. In the last chat the kids in each of the schools sang their respective national anthems One of the experiences we have is being able to organise youths to communicate through electronic chatting.
5
What skills do you and your youth have or expect to gain by participating in AYV? To adapt the goals of the project and to get the tools that will help the youths in the school to implement it, the tools will also help us to make our existing project more interesting. We expect to gain by: Improving on communication skills Gain technical knowledge of how to handle the project. Academic subject area knowledge that we already have includes: Word-processing E chatting E mailing Making an attachment e.g. of a picture to an e mail Subject matter in various subjects taught in Uganda primary schools
