2 * Research suggests that technology used in classrooms can be especially advantageous to at-risk, EL, and special ed students. (Means, Blando, Olson, et al, 2003)

3 1. Creativity and Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Students: A. will apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes. B. will create original works as a means of personal or group expression. C. will use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues. D. will identify trends and forecast possibilities. · Students will express ideas and information in a digital format including but not limited to: Video Production, webpage design, digital portfolio, podcast, digital animation. Example: Art History Photo Story, taught collaboratively between Teacher Librarian and Art 2 teacher, integrates images, text, music, and student narration. Project requires direct instruction of research, PowerPoint, file conversion, Audacity digital recording, Photo Story program, and wmv publishing.Photo Story

Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students: A. will interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media. B. will communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats. C. will develop a cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures. D. will contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems. · Students will express ideas and information in a digital format including but not limited to: Complete an online course, podcast, use of presentation software, use of email, web pages, wikis, and blogs, and participate in a collaborative project. Example: Senior Government Videos- Students had to work in collaborative groups to produce an original multimedia (audio, video, still images, and text) “campaign” commercial showing they understood the concepts taught for the above content standards http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20680017/juan.wmv

5 3. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students: A. will plan strategies to guide inquiry. B. will locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media. C. will evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks. D. will process data and report results. · Students will express ideas and information in a research project that will include utilization of multiple sources, MLA Format, a Works Cited page. Projects may include a persuasive essay, research paper, debate, science project. Example: We follow the Big6 TM Steps research process to teach students how to do research, both formal and informal, and quantitative and qualitative. These skills they use to gain knowledge are skills they can use throughout their lives, and the writing skills they are practicing through this process are skills they will need no matter their future in the 21st century....Big6 TM Steps

Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Students: A. will identify and define authentic problems and significant questions for investigation. B. will plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project. C. will collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions. D. will use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions. · Students will express ideas and information in a research project that will include utilization of multiple sources, MLA Format, a Works Cited page. Projects may include a persuasive essay, research paper, debate, science project. Example: Students create a web page on ThinkQuest to inform of the dangers of texting and driving.ThinkQuest

7 5. Digital Citizenship Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students: A. will advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology. B. will exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity. C. will demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning. D. will exhibit leadership for digital citizenship. · This will be completed by using iSafe curriculum beginning in 9 th grade social studies, library orientation, and reinforced in 10-12 th grade social science classes. Use iSafe curriculum and assessment tools.iSafe Students participate in iSafe curriculum in their social studies classes. iSafe assessments given after going through curriculum.

8 6. Technology Operations and Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students: A. will understand and use technology systems. B. will select and use applications effectively and productively. C. will troubleshoot systems and applications. D. will transfer current knowledge to learning of new technologies. · Students will demonstrate proper keyboarding skills. · Students will be able to troubleshoot basic problems. · Students will be able to store and retrieve files. · Students will learn basic technology vocabulary. · Students will be able to select a data format or appropriate technology tool. · Students will be able to recognize and distinguish file types. · Students will learn system maintenance and recovery. · Students will be able to publish and save documents. -Keyboarding (Students should be able to type at 30 wpm, in a 3 minute test, with at-least 80% accuracy) -Computer application skills to be developed in core classes while completing projects for technology standards 1-4. -Offer opportunity for students to take keyboarding class that incorporates keyboarding, business letter formatting, resume, and preparing digital presentations. (aligned to MC) -Establish technology Rockstar Bootcamp program for staff

9 Recap: Technology Standards 1-4 will be project based completed in core classes. Elective classes will begin aligning their technology projects with technology standards. Students will incorporate projects as part of senior portfolio. Technology Standard 5 will be completed using iSafe curriculum and assessments tools. Students participate in iSafe curriculum in Geography/Wellness classes and take iSafe Assessments. Technology Standard 6 will be completed by assessing students keyboarding skills. Students will have the option to: -opt out of keyboarding/word processing semester class by passing keyboarding assessment (30wpm) -take keyboarding/word processing class to meet requirement -take independent learning curriculum to meet requirement -Software application skills will be learned and practiced while completing projects for Technology Standards 1-4 Rockstar Bootcamp training program to expand teacher technology skills
