3 2010 Census Status Update All operations during 2010 on schedule Mailback rates comparable to 2000; somewhat more proxy response in nonresponse followup Initial indications are that the 2010 operations yielded more consistent results over tracts – Less variation in mailback rates – Less variation in completeness of population counts Indications of a better address list A return of over $1.6 billion because of absence of natural disasters and presence of active management controls 22

4 2010 Census Data Releases National and State Population Counts Coming before December 31, 2010 o Official counts of the entire U.S. population for purposes of apportionment, as mandated by U.S. Constitution o Includes basic demographic information, as well as home ownership and relationship to householder data 3
