1 His story about volcanos in Belgium … HAROUN TAZIEFF

2 Haroun Tazieff was born in Varsovie, on may 11th 1914. He died in February 1998. He was first a geologist / agronomist and then he became a famous volcanologist. He has the russian nationality and he was naturalized belgian in 1936. He came in Belgium in 1920. He has revolutionized the sciences ! He did a lot of sport, he was a fighter. He made his military service in Belgium and made his studies in Brussel. He was a soldier and a resistant, he was naturalized french in 1971, so he lost his belgian nationality. He was buried in the cemetery at Passy in Paris.

3 His passion begin when he learned the eruption of Kituro in Congo in 1948. He created and animated a volcanology center at the university of Brussel in 1957. He devoted himself to a lot of volcanology expeditions like the Etna. He was appointed director many times anywhere in Europe. He had the greatest post of the history of volcanology. His CAREER He was a faculty assistant (1984-1986), was mining engineer in Katanga (1945). Geologist (Belgian Congo). There, he studied the eruption of Kituro. In 1957, he beads the National Center of Volcanology. One year later, he worked in the university of sciences in Paris. He was named director of the laboratory of volcanolgy in the physics institut.

4 1979-1989 : Haroun has been elected mayor of his little village in the Alps. 1981 : After the election of François Mitterand as president of France, Haroun has been appointed as commissioner of the study and prevention of natural disasters. 1984-1986 : The french president appointed Haroun as State Secretary for the prevention of major natural and technological risks. 1988-1995 : Haroun has been president of the Committee of volcanic hazards. Some politics He returned in France and after that made lot of expedition about volcano. In 1972, he was director of research at CNRS. In 1981, he was the commisioner for the prevention of natural disasters.

5 Haroun Tazieff had also makes a documentary called "Les Rendez-vous du diable". The vulcanologist shows in this film craters in service of volcanoes of Europe, Indonesia, Japan, Central America and South America. Always trying to be as close as possible to the crater, in spite of the danger and the permanent risks, to plunge us at the heart of the eruption. His second movie " Les eaux souterraines" will obtain the first prize to the Venice Festival in 1957. It is finally the celebrity for Haroun Tazieff; she will allow him to dedicate herself completely to her passion for volcanoes. In 1966 he realised his third film called "Le Volcan Interdit" showing an expedition investigates the crater of Niragongo, volcano of the chain of Virunga, in Zaïre.
