Why Can’t I Use My Cell Phone? Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Board of Education Cell Phone Policy

What is Board Policy and Administrative Procedure 5132? Cell Phones and Other Portable/ Personal Electronic Devices (PEDS) are prohibited.

Why was this policy adopted? To ensure the use of cell phones and Persona/Portable Electronic Devices (PEDS) does not interfere with teaching and learning during the school day.

What are considered Personal/Portable Electronic Devices (PEDS)? The term “cell phone” includes, and is not limited to, iPhones, “smart” phones, Internet enabled phones, and other personal electronics that are capable of placing and/or receiving telephone calls, text messages, creating and distributing videos, and taking photographs.

When and where is cell phone use restricted? During school hours On the school bus Outside the school building On the parking lot

When and where is cell phone use permitted? Before school hours After school hours In cases of emergency With the teacher’s permission

Where do I store my electronic devices? BackpacksCubbies Lockers

What happens if I choose not to comply? First Time: Item taken and returned at the end of the day Second Time: Item taken and returned to parent. Third Time: Loss of privilege Fourth Time: Additional disciplinary action will be taken consistent with the Code of Student Conduct

OK, so now what do I do? Sign the contract Turn off the cell phone Store it in a secured location such as: on your person, in your backpack or in your cubby Take a seat, and Enjoy learning! Your teachers are ready to teach!
