1 Why Can’t I Use My Cell Phone? Prince George’s County Public Schools’ Board of Education Cell Phone Policy

2 What is Board Policy and Administrative Procedure 5132? Cell Phones and Other Portable/ Personal Electronic Devices (PEDS) are prohibited.

3 Why was this policy adopted? To ensure the use of cell phones and Persona/Portable Electronic Devices (PEDS) does not interfere with teaching and learning during the school day.

4 What are considered Personal/Portable Electronic Devices (PEDS)? The term “cell phone” includes, and is not limited to, iPhones, “smart” phones, Internet enabled phones, and other personal electronics that are capable of placing and/or receiving telephone calls, text messages, creating and distributing videos, and taking photographs.

5 When and where is cell phone use restricted? During school hours On the school bus Outside the school building On the parking lot

6 When and where is cell phone use permitted? Before school hours After school hours In cases of emergency With the teacher’s permission

7 Where do I store my electronic devices? BackpacksCubbies Lockers

8 What happens if I choose not to comply? First Time: Item taken and returned at the end of the day Second Time: Item taken and returned to parent. Third Time: Loss of privilege Fourth Time: Additional disciplinary action will be taken consistent with the Code of Student Conduct

9 OK, so now what do I do? Sign the contract Turn off the cell phone Store it in a secured location such as: on your person, in your backpack or in your cubby Take a seat, and Enjoy learning! Your teachers are ready to teach!
