2 What is sustainable development? The Problem: we are using more natural resources than Earth can re-produce -> our way of life is unsustainable. Sustainable development is: satisfying the needs of present generations so that future generations can fulfil their own needs -> to live in way that is benefitial to economy, society and environment.

3 What is “Sustaining our Future” (SuFu) ? It is AEGEE Flagship Project for 2008-2009 It is a project aiming for: –a bit more green AEGEE -> more environmentally responsible (youth) organisations in Europe –to raise understanding of the connections between culture, society, environment and our own lives –to inform about the importance of sustainable development It is project run by 14 young people from all over Europe

4 What is a Flagship Project? Every year AEGEE selects a focus to itself, a project that all AEGEE bodies can contribute to – a Flagship Project. Since Agora Valletta (spring 2007) a Flagship Project lasts 2 years. Flagship Project consists of different activities all around Europe: conferences, study visits, trainings, action days, publications, etc. The last 2 Flagship Projects focused on higher education and democracy in Europe

10 Also: partnership with IUCN IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) - one of the biggest and most important environmental organisations in the world. In June 2008 AEGEE became official partner of Countdown 2010 – IUCN’s initative created to stop loss of biodiversity. By IUCN we were also invited to send youth statement to G8 summit in Japan. The statement can be found from our website. In October 2008, in IUCN congress we presented AEGEE and our project to major sustainability leaders in the world.
