New Admission Policies for Graduate Programs The Graduate College Outreach Program
2
New Admission Policies University Minimum GPA for Admission Official Decision Notification International Transcript Evaluation Readmission after 3 semesters Admission Deadlines Admission Categories
3
Minimum GPA for Admission Minimum GPA for admission is 2.75 from the bachelor’s granting institution. Applicants with a lower GPA will not be forwarded to the program for review. If your program uses a different method to compute admission GPA, that method must be documented, approved by the GPCC and filed with the Graduate Admissions Office. Note: Minimum cumulative GPA for funded assistantships and continuing as a graduate student is a 3.0.
4
Official Notification of Decision Program will review applicant file. Program will notify Graduate Admissions of their recommended admission decision (Action Form). Graduate Admissions will verify applicant meets university and program admission standards and then send appropriate decision notification. If Graduate Admissions review indicates a different outcome from program recommendation, the program will be notified and asked to justify their recommendation. Note: Programs/faculty should not communicate admission decision to applicant until confirmed by Graduate Admissions.
5
International Transcript Evaluation The Graduate College will now only accept international transcript evaluations from three companies: – Evaluation Services, Inc. – Joseph Silney & Associates, Inc. – World Education Services (WES) These three do a better job of verifying the authenticity or documents No longer use any agency at NACES
6
Readmission Students not enrolled in the last 3 semesters will be considered as inactive and will need to re-apply before they can register for classes. KSU formerly used 6 semesters.
7
Admission Deadlines Programs can set their admission deadlines using the following guidelines: – The first of a month – Fall = No later than July 1 – Spring = No later than November 1 – Summer = No later than April 1 Deadline represents date for application and all supporting documents/test scores. Admission decisions recommendations should be returned to Graduate Admissions no later than 10 business days after final deadline.
8
Admission Categories Full Acceptance Accepted Pending Conditional Acceptance Provisional Acceptance Programs do not have to use all categories.
9
Full Acceptance Applicant meets all stated admission criteria, has been reviewed and recommended for admission by the program faculty, and will begin the graduate courses leading directly to the degree.
10
Accepted Pending Applicant meets all stated admission criteria and has been reviewed and recommended for admission by the program faculty to begin the graduate courses leading directly to the degree; however, is lacking an official or final document, such as a transcript with the recently earned degree posted or official test scores in place of the unofficial used in the decision process. International students cannot be “pending” final transcripts, official evaluations, or English language testing results.
11
Conditional Acceptance - NEW Applicant has been reviewed by the program faculty and recommended for admission contingent on completing stated outcomes outside the degree program. They cannot take courses counting towards the graduate degree until all conditions have been met. Examples may be completing an English language program or foundation courses. Students needing foundation/certificate courses may be recoded as a certificate student while completing those courses. Upon successful completion of the conditions, student will be fully accepted into their degree program.
12
Provisional Acceptance - NEW Applicant has been reviewed by the program faculty and recommended for admission; however, there may be additional items that need to be completed or documented prior to being “fully accepted”. They would be allowed to take graduate courses towards the degree, as advised by program faculty, but must complete provisional items prior to finishing 9 semester hours of graduate courses which lead to the degree. Examples may be an applicant with a marginal GPA that must achieve stated grades in specific courses or applicants that need a course or two to complete pre- requisite knowledge.
