“…parties are husks, with no real soul within either, divided on artificial lines, boss-ridden and privilege-controlled, each a jumble of incongruous elements, and neither daring to speak out wisely and fearlessly on what should be said on the vital issues of the day.” -- Theodore Roosevelt

“Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule--and both commonly succeed, and are right.” - H.L. MenckenH.L. Mencken

“The Libertarian Party ran more than 1430 candidates in the 2000 elections, more than twice as many as all other third parties combined.”

"George W. Bush says he has a plan for children's health care. But why hasn't he done it in Texas? Texas ranks 49th out of 50 in providing health coverage to kids. The needs of abused kids are neglected. Texas failed to inform families of health coverage available to children. The Bush record: It's becoming an issue."

Woman: "There's Al Gore reinventing himself on television again. Really. Al Gore... claiming credit for things he didn't even do." Gore: "I took the initiative in creating the Internet." Woman: "Yeah and I invented the remote control, too. Another round of this, and I'll sell my television."

"It takes five times as many more petition signatures for our party to be on the ballot than a major name candidate,"

Georgia passed a law in 1943 requiring that new party and independent candidates submit a petition signed by 5% of the number of registered voters in order to get on the ballot for any office. The result has been that since 1943, there has not been one third party candidate on the Georgia ballot for U.S. House of Reps.

If you're mad about this, contact your elected representatives to complain about Oklahoma's restrictive and discriminatory ballot access laws: - Over 40,000 Oklahomans signed petitions to place Nader on the ballot, but that wasn't enough! - Oklahoma has the highest signature requirement, per capita, of any state in the country - Oklahoma's signature deadline (July 15) is one of the earliest (only 8 states are earlier) - Oklahoma is one of only 7 states that don't allow write-in votes for U.S. President

The states in which the Libertarian Party now has ballot status are: AZ, CA, DE, GA, ID, IN, KA, MN, MS, MO, MT, NV, NM, OR, SC, SD, TX, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY (22 OUT OF 50)

The Democratic Steering and Coordination Committee is responsible for building coalitions with Democrats at all levels of government, and with advocacy organizations in pursuit of the policy objectives of the Senate Democratic Conference. The Chairman of the Democratic Steering and Coordination Committee is appointed by the Majority Leader.

The Republican’s do not have a steering committee. Republicans use their policy committee for this function. The chair is appointed by the Minority Leaders.
