Characters Protagonist: main character/main figure Antagonist: character who opposes protagonist Direct characterization: writer makes direct statements about character’s personality Indirect characterization: reader learns about the character through their words, actions and other characters.

Characters (continued) Dynamic character: one that undergoes an important inner change. Static character: a character that does not grow or develop internally. Flat character: a minor character who does not go through much change. Round character: encounters conflict and is changed by it. Fully developed personality.

Plot Point of view: perspective of the story. First person, third= third person limited, third person omniscient. Rising Action: events going from exposition to climax. Climax: most intense/ major turning point. Falling Action: events that go from climax to resolution. Resolution: outcome/ conclustion/ ending.

Activity: On your paper, write an example of a literary element from a book/movie you know well. Blue papers must write an example of a protagonist or antagonist and put it by the raindrop. Green papers must write an example of a dynamic, static, flat or round character and put it by the tree. Yellow papers must write an example of point of view, climax or resolution and put it by the flame.
