A homegrown scholarship fund, serving Hunterdon County since 1956 visit us at: www.jenniehaverscholarship.org January 21, 2009

A Message From our President, Ella Haver –It has been a privilege to serve as president for the past 32 years. We have been serving our community since 1956! –I want to express my appreciation to all who have helped raise more than $1.3 Million awarded to 432 students. –Our goal in 2009 is to : »1) Raise $60,000 in new donations »2) Raise awareness, by students and the community »3) Increase donations beyond 2009 »4) Increase the applicant pool to help reach the most eligible

Serving the community and…….. The Jennie M. Haver Scholarship serves students in all 5 Hunterdon County public high schools We have been successful and growing for over 52 years, but We need your help today to make us better: –Increase awareness –Improve the application process by increasing the applicant pool –Get involved directly with spreading the word community to ensure fund raising activities are successful

How we operate: Each year, students are awarded scholarship aid based on the following criteria: –Financial need……single most important criteria –Merit……..specifically, academic and social responsibility achievements Any student is eligible and can ask to be considered! We need this opportunity to be broadcast so more students could apply to be considered!! Counselors from each high school then provide their recommendations from the pool of applicants, based on the scholarship criteria, to the Trustees. Trustees follow up with personal interviews. Each selected and interviewed student is notified of their awarded amount. –In recent years at least 16 students are awarded. –In 2008 a new special awarded was added to the 6 other special discipline awards The Ella Haver Science Award. –In 2008, $79,000 was awarded In 2009, we are seeking to work with each high school’s counselors to : –Increase students’ awareness of the fund to drive more applicants –Improve links between the school financial aid websites and the jenniehaverscholarship.org website –Increase the awareness of the Hunterdon All County Revue, the single largest fund raising event for the fund by faculty, students, and community –Increase each School’s participation in the fund raising activities to ensure the future operations of this critical resource for students

Some Specific Guidelines for Scholarship Awards Scholarships for advanced education in any field are awarded annually to seniors recommended by their respective schools. –Hunterdon Central, with the largest student enrollment, submits two candidates. –Because of the DeMott bequest, North Hunterdon and Voorhees will each submit three. –The other high schools recommend one student. The administration and guidance personnel in each school select candidates on the basis of financial need, character, and scholastic achievements Final selection of the recipients and scholarships are made by the Board of Trustees after personal interviews. Awards over $2,000 are divided over two or four years. If a recipient does not remain in school, he or she forfeits the rest of the scholarship. The number and size of awards made in any year will be determined by the Trustees' knowledge of the ability of the Fund to fulfill commitments.

In 2008, 17 students were awarded $79,000 ! The Breakdown of these awards are as follows: –10 scholarships totaling about $57, 000 awarded under the general category of “Jennie M. Haver” –7 additional “Special Named” annual awards were granted as follows M.P.
