Who’s eligible? – Seniors – Planning on continuing their education in the Fall Why apply? – Easy money – Nothing to lose – The application is easy to complete

Materials Needed to Complete Scholarship Application 1) Local Scholarship Handbook 2) Sample Local Scholarship application form 3) Identification # 4) List of High School Awards, Activities, and work experience (found in your portfolio) 5) Computer with internet access and ability to save files

Step 1 - Research Read through Scholarship Handbook and eliminate scholarships you are not qualified for – Example: Scholarship #3 the Grace Morse / M.M. Bartley Memorial Scholarship states you must attend a Wisconsin College to prepare for a career in teaching. – If I plan on majoring in business, am I eligible for this scholarship? NO! Cross off.

Step 2 – Rough draft Mark scholarships you are eligible for on the sample Local Scholarship Application. – Example: Back to scholarship #3 – If I’m planning on becoming a teacher, I would check the box next to #3 Note: Some scholarships on the application form are in BOLD. These scholarships require an essay or an additional application – Example: Scholarship #10 Columbus Athletic Boosters Scholarship indicates an additional essay needs to be submitted.

Step 3 – Final Draft Computer portion of the application process – Go to Columbus School District Webpage – www.columbus.k12.wi.us – Click High School (under schools tab) – Click Student Services – Click Scholarships – Click Local Scholarship Application Save application to your computer hard drive, your school file, or flash drive (very important) – SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!!!!

Step 3 – Final Draft (continued) How to fill in computer application – identification number on each page – check all scholarships you are eligible for – fill in activities and awards – fill in future plans – list work experience – answer essay questions – save often

Step 3 – Final Draft (continued) Print Application and Revise if necessary Have a teacher and/or parent proofread alll parts of the application, including ESSAYS Do not rely on spell check – Example: College not collage Sentence structure – Bad Example: I want to go to school to go for a business career. Have a parent read through Scholarship Handbook to make sure you have checked all eligible scholarships

Step 4 – Publish Print out final revised copy Turn into Student Services by Tuesday, April 9 th

Tips Do not procrastinate Read through scholarship handbook carefully Check your application for errors Get your application in on time Don’t forget to fill out additional applications and/or additional essays for bolded scholarships (applications and essays can be found on website within Local Scholarship Information section)
