10 Poverty Criteria Most Oregon Districts use Eligibility for Free and Reduced Lunch Counts Determine % students: – Eligible for Free and Reduced Lunch in each District School

11 Secondary Schools HS/MS Students –Do not apply for free/reduced lunch as elementary students do District may use feeder pattern Project HS/MS free/reduced lunch using elementary numbers See USDE Guidance: examples of “ feeder ” patterns

12 Eligible Schools Must serve schools 75% poverty May serve schools 35% poverty Under 35% –125% rule applies (See ‘Determining Eligible Schools’ for more information)

13 Rank Order Schools Determine whether district will rank order: –By grade span or –without regard to grade span Rank all schools by % of poverty

14 School Allocations Determine per child amount: – May use: same per-child amount Varied per-child amount –Must: allocate higher per-child amount to schools with higher poverty rates

15 School Allocation Districts with: – Less than 1000 students –One building per grade span Need not target schools

16 Funding Eligible Private School Students Determine: Number of eligible private school students in each school attendance area Multiply school per child amount by number of eligible students

17 Funding Schools Allocate 95% of parent involvement setaside to schools Schools in improvement must set aside 10% of allocation for professional development May reduce school allocation 15% to pay for choice and SES

18 School Funding District Coordinator –Ensure time/effort records are kept –Ensure comparability among all district schools –Assist schools in selecting activities
