Hatteras Dive Shop This little hut used to house the Hatteras Dive Shop and the Stain Glass Hut. It slid into the water as the dock at Oden's gave way.

Village Marina This is the store for Village Harbor Marina which no longer has a parking lot. Instead there is a moat that was created due to the flood waters from the ocean wave runoff into the sound.

From the side Another picture of Village Marina. We docked our boat and walked to what's left of the sidewalk this is were the boat ramp began at the end of the parking lot. It slipped bit by bit down the ramp and into the water.

The Marina's Motel Village Marina Hotel was undermined when Willis' boat ramp was washed out behind the building.

The back view As you can guess the hotel has been condemned.

Along the beach These houses used to have dunes to protect them from the ocean. 'no more'

A lonely dune, all that remains. This picture is in the opposite direction, looking south. It shows how the beach was stripped of all the protection except this dune which stands alone...

Beach looking North Another picture showing there are no dunes to protect the homes from any storms.

Billy Mitchell Motel From the beach a look at the Billy Mitchell motel.

Billy Mitchell Motel From the road, the Billy Mitchell Motel doesn't look any better.

Durant Station This is one of the small motels that was taken off its foundation and moved about 100 yards into Hwy 12.

Another section This is another piece of the Durant Motel.

And one more All 3 of the last pictures shows Durant Station Motel, these are 3 separate buildings in 3 different locations. This one is in the middle of the road, while another piece was moved almost 500 yards to the West.

The Cabanas No longer a shelter at the beach. Many Cabana units no longer exist. Only little stubs poking out of the sand showing were they used to be.

Pelican Roost All the bait and tackle from this shop is now in the sound as well as the other supplies this store sold. Warning don't walk barefoot in the sound near here...

Entrance into Hatteras Estates This house didn't stand a chance. The water is said to be 8 feet deep under the house.

Hatteras Civic Center Another view of the sunken house.

A new inlet Maybe I should say old inlet. Before there was a road here there was a bridge. In the storm of 1933 the bridge that stood here was wiped out and a road was built in its place.

A closer look Standing at the end of the road looking north towards Frisco is this breach, the new inlet. The question is, how will the transportation department solve this one???

Rodanthe This is Hwy 12 looking north where Rodanthe and Pea Island meet. For surfers it is known as the S turn.

Clearing the road Re-entry to the island was open Sunday 9-21-03 due to the hard work of crews like this one up in Rodanthe.
