Questions & Answers 2010 Coordinator Recertification Training

Q – Over the years several of the firearms that have been purchased through the MC 4-H Shooting Sports Program were transferred in the name of an instructor, some of which are now possibly deceased or in failing health. Is there another way around this, how should we be handling this in the future and what should we do with the firearms that are now in someone’s name? (Answer on next slide) Indiana 4-H Shooting Sports Questions from Previous Viewers

Firearm Purchases A – All the firearms that are purchased for the 4-H program with 4-H dollars, should be in the transferred to the club or 4- H Council. Guidelines for doing this for purchases are given on the shooting sports webpage (www.four- h.purdue.edu/shooting_sports/. Click on the link “for Instructors” or go directly to: www.four- h.purdue.edu/shooting_sports/Instructor%20Resources.htm). The same guidelines should be followed when transferring firearms and used for all purchases in the future. The instructions you need are in the 4 th row, second column. Note: We highly recommend that the firearms are checked once a year by a gunsmith. Contact the local law officers for assistance in destroying any firearms that the gunsmith recommends removing from inventory.

Q – Can I get IDNR Hunter Education certification at the 4-H SS workshop? A – No. To become certified in IDNR Hunter Education you need to be at least 21 years old and go through you local CO to take the test and receive at least 90%. Q – Can personal firearms be used? A – Yes. Indiana 4-H Shooting Sports Questions from Previous Viewers

Q – Is the Certificate of Insurance (CoI) sent directly to the property owner? A – When the initial request for a COI is made, the policy is sent directly to the property owner and Extension Educator. Subsequent requests for a COI are handled internally, so the COI is sent to the Extension Educator via e-mail. The Extension Educator needs to send it on to the property owner. Q – Who issues the COI? A – Purdue’s Risk Management office through the Extension Director’s office. Indiana 4-H Shooting Sports Certificate of Insurance

Q – Is Hunter’s Education required for the safety portion of Shooting Sports? A – No. The IDNR Hunter Education certificate may not be required for youth to participate in the 4-H Shooting Sports program. You may, however, excuse youth who hold the IDNR Hunter Education certificate from your safety meeting. Always review range rules and other safety items when on the range.
