2  Overview In this unit students listen to people talking about health problems and remedies. In the Real World Listening section, they listen to visitors at a student clinic. In the Interaction Link, students have an opportunity to talk about the remedies they use for a variety of health problems.

10 Unit 14 Health – Warm Up  Getting Started (book closed) Move Your Body Teacher gives the commands (Possible commands: raise your left arm/right arm, touch your left leg, put your hand on your stomach/ head / shoulder. Point to your foot/arm/neck/…) Students demonstrate each movement as required.

11 Unit 14 Health – Warm Up  Getting Started (book closed) Pantomime Teacher writes in a sheet of paper a word of how one feels. Allow one student to read that word and then pantomime the opposite feeling to the class.

12 Unit 14 Health – Warm Up  Getting Started (book closed) Pantomime The class make a guess of the word. For example, Teacher writes the word “weak”. Then a student pantomimes the opposite feeling (strong). The class make a guess. Possible pairs: tense/relaxed, happy/sad, great/terrible.

Often these clinics offer mental health support as well. Colleges encourage students to talk to someone at the clinic if they are stressed out or depressed.

55 Unit 14 Health – Interaction Link  Culture Note In America, quite a few rich families will have their own family doctors. The doctor is responsible for diagnosing, prescribing medicine, giving suggestions etc. If family members have some problems physical or mental, they would call the doctor for consultation. Many doctors have a good relationship with their patients. Besides, doctor’s income is always ranking top in America for it’s not easy to become a doctor.

56 Unit 14 Health – Interaction Link  Extensions Task 1– “sore” or “ache” Teacher makes a simple drawing of a person on the board. Have students label the body parts: arm, leg, head, shoulder, and so on. Students copy it on a separate piece of paper or in their notebooks.
