Lesson Menu Objectives Example 1 Example 2 Quick Quiz

Objectives To recognize equivalent ratios To use tables to compare ratios of mixtures To recognize and express ratios in different situations

Example 1 BOOKS Several students were asked to name their favorite kind of book. Write the ratio that compares the number of students who chose fantasy books to the total number of students who responded. Five students preferred fantasy out of a total of 7 + 9 + 4 + 5 or 25 responses.

Example 1 Answer: The ratio of the number of students who chose fantasy to the total number of responses is, 1 to 5, or 1:5. Analyzing the ratio tells us that one out of every 5 students preferred fantasy books. ÷5 The GCF of 5 and 25 is 5. fantasy responses total responses

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 1 SPORTS Students have the balls listed in the table available to use during recess. What is the ratio of basketballs to the total number of balls? A. B. C. D.

Example 2 CLOTHING Coco used 12 yards of fabric to make 9 blouses. Use the ratio table to find the number of blouses she could make with 20 yards of fabric. There is no whole number by which you can multiply 12 to get 20. So, scale back to 4 and then scale forward to 20.

Example 2 Divide each quantity by a common factor, 3. Then, since 4 × 5 = 20, multiply each quantity by 5. Answer: So, Coco could make 15 blouses with 20 yards of fabric.

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Example 2 PAINT Mrs. Wallace ordered 8 bottles of paint for 18 students. Use the ratio table to find the number of bottles of paint she would need to order for 27 students. A.12 bottles B.14 bottles C.15 bottles D.18 bottles

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Quick Quiz 1 Helio has traveled to 18 different states by car, another 5 states by train, and 7 more states by airplane. What is the ratio of states Helio traveled to by car versus the total number of states he has traveled to? A. B. C. D.

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Quick Quiz 2 Mia has traveled to a total of 40 different states. If her ratio of states traveled by car is the same as Helio’s, how many states has Mia traveled to by car? A.24 states B.28 states C.22 states D.26 states

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Quick Quiz 3 The school play is using a mixture of 7 containers of white paint and 3 containers of red paint to create the pink paint they are using for the walls of a scene. If they need to make a batch of paint from 40 containers, how much white paint do they need to use? A.21 containers B.28 containers C.12 containers D.25 containers

1.A 2.B 3.C 4.D Quick Quiz 4 Select the correct set of numbers to complete the ratio table. A.3, 6, 9 B.3, 5, 8 C.3, 6, 8 D.2, 6, 8 3 68
