What are the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS)? Clear expectations at each grade level in English, Language Arts, and Math Clear goals College and work readiness They are not a curriculum State-led initiative (CCS)Common Core Standards

Why do we need Academic Standards? Why are they important for students, teachers, and parents? Preparation for career/college Consistent expectations across the nation Encourage development of teaching materials

What tests will my child be taking? Benchmark: December and May The Georgia Milestones: April 14-24 Student Learning Objectives (SLO) Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) ACCESS

Why give a state test to my child To measure learning Help determine student needs School and district accountability

What is different about the new assessments? Students will be asked to support their answers. Constructed-response in addition to multiple-choice questions Deepens knowledge of progress and helps identify gaps in progress

Benefits of new assessments Quicker, clearer results Computer-based assessments Improves comparison of student performance Will provide accurate measures of achievement and growth for all students
