June 2009 Remember… NSGIC recommends official coordinating entity for each state – OET, GCGI agree AppGeo recommends formation of the Minnesota Geospatial Information Office (MGIO) – D2E, GCGI agree No agency is currently responsible for coordinating GIS

June 2009 Purpose To identify and review coordination opportunities and efforts that involve the broad community of stakeholders: Federal, State, County, Local, Regional, and Tribal government Academic Institutions, Private Sector, Non-Profit Provide a forum for and promote inter- governmental and extra-governmental coordination efforts with respect to the needs of the geospatial community. Provide policy advice to stakeholders on implementing identified coordination opportunities. Statewide Community Advisory Body

June 2009 Purpose Identify, review, and recommend geospatial coordination opportunities and efforts that directly involve interactions among state agencies and offices. The body represents the interests of and communicates with all state agencies and offices. Determine representation and communication by function of government: Basic Government (Support, Econ. Dev., Fiscal Mgmnt) Defense and Public Safety (Military, Public Safety, Health) Line Government Services (Trans., Env., Human Svcs., Education) State Government Advisory Body

June 2009 Duties Review and recommend statewide standards and best practices Determine & advocate for the interests and needs of stakeholders Identify public expenditures that reflect the priorities of the community Advise non-state agency organizations and the MGIO on geospatial issues Represent stakeholder sectors and serve as a liaison with respective policy bodies Support the decision-making process for the MGIO by involving the relevant and affected parties Statewide Community Advisory Body

June 2009 1. Business Need Statement: The state of Minnesota needs to plan and prepare for unpredictable flood events. 2. Technical Response: Scope development of high-resolution elevation data. 3. June 2009 Duties Cultivate a strategic plan for the MGIO Review and recommend standards and best practices Identify public expenditures that reflect priorities Identify & secure resources to implement opportunities Represent state agencies & work with agency leaders Support the decision-making process for the MGIO by involving the relevant and affected state agencies Review and communicate impacts of opportunities Coordinate state government GIS implementation under the state's IT architecture framework.
