List 3 rules you would want to make if you were stranded on a deserted island with your classmates Provide an explanation for each rule

2 You and your classmates are shipwrecked on a deserted, uncharted island with no hope of being rescued You must work together to build a community Follow the guidelines on your sheet to create a rulebook for your community ALL MEMBERS must sign the rule book All members must take part You will have 20 minutes

3 How did you feel during this exercise?
How did you feel when I stopped the activity and had you go back to your seat? Give an example during the exercise when a majority of your classmates agreed on a decision What are some of the advantages and disadvantages to everyone having a say?

4 Give specific examples from your experience
Give an example during the exercise when one person tried to make decisions for everyone else What are some of the advantages and disadvantages to having one person make decisions for everyone Based on this experience, do you believe people can be trusted to govern themselves? Why or why not? Give specific examples from your experience

5 Fold your paper into thirds (two folds)

6 Divide both flaps in half, creating 2 doors on each flap
Carefully cut the 2 doors on the front flap, DO NOT cut through the fold

7 On the last flap (the one farthest to the right) , divide each door into four strips
Carefully cut each strip, being careful not to cut through the fold

8 Label the top door with the word :AUTOCRACY
Label the bottom door with the word: DEMOCRACY DEMOCRACY

9 Label the strips with the following terms in the following order (from top to bottom)
Monarchy Absolute Monarchy Constitutional Monarchy Dictatorship Direct Democracy Republic Democracy Parliamentary Democracy Presidential Democracy

10 Autocracy: unlimited authority by a single individual
Democracy: Government in which political control is exercised by all the people equally DEMOCRACY

Government in which the executive brand (leaders)- prime minister and cabinet- are chosen by and responsible to Legislature (parliament) as well as being members of the Legislature Great Britain, Spain, Japan

19 Presidential Democracy
Government in which there is a separation of powers between independent and co-equal executive and legislative branches United States, Mexico

20 Monarchy System of government headed by monarch (king or queen) inherited for life Saudi Arabia, Kuwait

A teacher decides there will be a test on Friday A group of friends decide on which movie to go to by discussing three possible movies and voting on which one they want to see A manager of a fast-food restaurant decides to give workers a 50-cent per hour raise A mother listens to her daughter complain about not being allowed to stay out late at night then decides to let her daughter stay out one hour later
