3 4 Types of Bones  Long Bones (arms, legs)  Short (hands, feet)  Flat (protect organs and places of attachment)  Irregular (anything that is not long short or flat)

4 Facts About Bones Babies have over 350 bones in the body. As you grow older, bones fuse together and join as one. Adults have 206 bones in the body.

5 Parts of the Bone Periostium - Outer Layer Compact – Hard Bone Cancellous – Spongy Bone (Not actually spongy) Bone Marrow Red – Creates Red Blood Cells Yellow – Stores Fat

6 Other than Bones… Cartilage - Soft slippery layer of flexible bone found in joints. (also nose and ear) Ligaments - Tissue that connects bones to other bones. Joints – Where 2 bones meet. Hinge – moves back and forth (elbow, knee) Ball and Socket – moves in a circular motion. ( hip, shoulder)
