THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMISTRATION (FHWA) HAS MADE THE STATE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSUREING ALL NATIONAL BRIDGE INVENTORY AND INSPECTION ACTIVITIES ADHEAR TO THE MINIMUM FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS AS A MATTER OF COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL REGULATIONS UNDER THREAT OF THE WITHHOLDING OF FEDERAL FUNDING 11,935 COUNTY BRIDGES 3,520 STATE BRIDGES

FHWA HAS NEW MEASUREMENT STANDARDS TO DETERMINE COMPLIANCE TWENTY THREE DIFFERENT MEASURES DEPARTMENT OF ROADS IS HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR MEETING THESE METRICS RELY HEAVILY ON THE COOPERATION OF YOU AND YOUR SUPERINTENDENTS IN MEETING THEM

650.311 – Inspection frequency A)Routine Inspections are to be performed at regular intervals not to exceed twenty-four months C) Fracture Critical member inspections are to be performed at intervals that do not exceed twenty-four months

Assure systematic quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures are used to maintain a high degree of accuracy and consistency in the inspection program H) Follow up on critical findings. Establish a statewide or Federal agency wide procedure to assure that critical findings are addressed in a timely manner.
