Why should I go to London to make a presentation on something I invited in the United States? Thomas Edison American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) –founded 1884, New York City –founders included some most prominent inventors and innovators in the then new field of electrical engineering. –first meeting was held during the 1884 International Electrical Exhibition, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (October 7-8, at the Franklin Institute).
4
AIEE Purpose "to promote the Arts and Sciences connected with the production and utilization of electricity and the welfare of those employed in these Industries: by means of social intercourse, the reading and discussion of professional papers and the circulation by means of publication among members and associates of information thus obtained."

Electronic “computers” were invented to “compute” artillery tables
11
radio detection and ranging was developed to detect approaching enemy aircraft by the end of the War, radar was mounted on aircraft

Your IEEE This is your professional society –serve the needs of EE/CpE’s Member benefits –Knowledge Stay current with the fast changing world of technology –Community belong to a network of 365,000 members in 150 countries. –Profession empowering members to build their careers
19
IEEE Service Volunteer Organization –All officers are elected from the membership and serve. –Benefits to members are result of volunteer contributions. –IEEE focuses on benefits members receive –IEEE members also receive benefits by serving

Region 6 Membership Region 6 is currently the third largest IEEE region and the largest U.S. Region. At the end of July 2007 the Region had 55,911 total members: –Region 6 represents 16.0% of IEEE’s total membership. –The Region has 50,408 Higher Grade Members and 5,503 Student Members. –Membership in Region 6 is down 0.7% from July 2006, representing a loss of 384 members. Membership packets have been mailed to Section MD chairs or Section chairs (where no MD Chair exists).
