4 INTRODUCTION Who you are? Qui vous êtes? What do you do for UG? Que faites-vous au pré-gradué? If you were a vegetable, what vegetable would you be? And Why? Quel légume seriez-vous et pourquoi?

5 CLERKSHIP EVALUATION: a MUST??? L’évaluation à l’externat: est-ce nécessaire? Supervisor and/or most responsible physician must provide supervision. This includes: evaluating the medical student's level of expertise ensuring that the medical student has the appropriate knowledge, skills and judgment

6 Evaluation of medical student through: direct observation Indirect observation Frequency of evaluations: ongoing evaluation to determine clinical competence and educational requirement meeting regularly for assessment, management and documentation of patient care.

7 What to evaluate : appropriate knowledge skills judgment Ability to perform the delegated act such that the patient is not put in jeopardy reviewing and countersigning documentation countersigning all orders concerning investigation or treatment of a patient, written under the supervision or direction of a physician.

8 Mid-rotation evaluation Rotation mi-stage End of week 2 (student has 5 weeks with preceptor) Direct feedback to student Evaluation on one45

10 Concerns If you are having any concerns about a student’s performance: clearly document your concerns on that evaluation don’t wait for the final evaluation If you give “2” (inconsistently meets expectations), give details in the section “Areas of Need of Attention”. If you give “1” (rarely meets expectations), a remediation plan is needed and this should be discussed with rotation director immediately.
