Nutrition: Fats Human Biology 11

Fats Excellent for storing energy. When extra energy is needed, fat can be broken down (but this is harder to do than carbs). Also aid in the absorption of vitamins and insulate the body.

Types of Fats Saturated Fats: Solid at room temperature. Animal fats. Harder to break down and increase cholesterol levels. Unsaturated Fats: Liquid at room temp. Vegetable fats. Easier to break down.

Cholesterol A white, waxy substance similar to fat. Found only in animal products. We need some to keep cell membranes healthy. But our bodies produce enough. Too much will clog blood vessels and restrict blood flow.
