Acid Reactions - Practical 1. SAFETY GLASSES ON! 2. Assemble in small groups 3. ONE person will collect a test tube, an acid, a metal sample, and a carbonate sample. 4. In your group put a small amount of acid into the test tube and observe what happens. 5. Put a burning splint into the test tube and describe what happens 6. Repeat 4 and 5 with the carbonate 7. CLEAN UP

Acids and Metals When a reactive metal is put into a strong acid it will release Hydrogen gas and produce a type of salt Always remember ACID + METAL  HYDROGEN + SALT

Acids and Carbonates Carbonates are a formal name for things made from limestone When a carbonate is put into an acid it will produce Carbon Dioxide and water Remember ACID + CARBONATE  CARBON DIOXIDE + WATER

Acids and Bases Watch the video

Acids and Bases When an ACID and a BASE combine they NEUTRALIZE one another and create water plus a salt Remember ACID + BASE  SALT + WATER
