5 What is Title I? Title I is the largest federal assistance program for our nations schools. It is based on the percentage of students on free or reduced lunch. In 2009- 2010, 67% of students at Largo Middle School were on free or reduced lunch. This year we are at about the same percentage. The goal of Title I is a higher quality of education for every child. The program is NEW to middle and high schools this year in Pinellas County.

6 How Title I Works The federal government provides funding to states each year for Title I. The Florida Department of Education sends the money to the district. The school district identifies eligible schools and provides Title I funds.

7 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) No Child Left Behind allows the U.S. The Department of Education to determine how every public school and school district in the country is performing academically according to results on standardized tests (FCAT). The goal is for ALL students to be proficient (at grade level) in reading, writing, and math by 2014. Schools that receive Title I funds must make AYP every year.

8 Parents Rights Be involved and request regular meetings/conferences to express your opinions and concerns Be provided information on your childs level of achievement on assessments like FCAT in reading/language arts, mathematics, and science Request and receive information on the qualifications of your childs teachers Be informed if your child is taught by a non- highly qualified teacher for four or more consecutive weeks
