Focus Strategy Adjust Reading Rate Good readers use different strategies to help them understand what they read. You should read some texts, such as those with many facts and details, more slowly than other texts. You should adjust your reading rate according to the kind of text you are reading.

Strategy Skill Connection If you are trying to summarize a nonfiction selection with many facts and details, you should adjust your reading rate by slowing down to make sure you understand what you are reading.
