Writing a Non-Fiction Book Review

READ THE BOOK! (You do not necessarily have to read a non- fiction book all the way through to write a review.) Immediately write down some notes! List: –Memorable information –Overall impression –Questions or concerns

BOOK REVIEW Paragraph 1 –Name of book –Audience and purpose –Topic or theme –Type of book (reference, thematic, biography, technical)

BOOK REVIEW Paragraph 2 –Summary of the book –Include only the most important information

BOOK REVIEW Paragraph 3 –Discuss one aspect of the writing Organization Vocabulary Text Features / Layout Accuracy / Reliability Effectiveness (Does the book achieve its purpose? Does it reach its audience?) Anything else you can think of… –Site specific example(s) from the book

BOOK REVIEW Paragraph 4 –Discuss how useful the book is. –Discuss the reliability of the book. Is it accurate? Is it biased? Can the information be trusted?
