There are four major influences that have shaped my teaching philosophy. My father spent 30 years in the United States Navy..
3
Part of my education took place in the South during the Civil Rights Movement.
4
At the age of 21, I served as an artillery officer in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
5
Following military service, I served and protected the citizens of the State of California as a Highway Patrolman for thirteen years.
8
I experienced first-hand the abuses of history, a history that justified exploitation and racism.
9
My philosophy of teaching is two-fold: First: I teach students to understand why we live under the rule of law, and how laws are created, enforced, interpreted, and changed. This study includes criminal, civil, and constitutional law.
10
Second: I teach young people with a deep desire to better oneself through the acquisition of knowledge and a better understanding of the complexities of the world we live in. you
11
When we discuss and investigate topics in class, we will strive to move beyond a "merely verbal" understanding, because you will start to see the implications a particular idea could have on our nation and community.
12
Our communities are diverse, so I will try to help you understand the complexity of our nation by understanding the relationship between geography, culture, folklore, political ideologies and how they have shaped our nation.
13
In addition to teaching about the role of laws in our lives, I will also try to motivate you to think critically, to demand more of yourselves, and to find new creative ways of problem solving.
14
Throughout the school year, I discuss and reinforce basic values of morality and ethics that I believe will be of to benefit you throughout your daily lives.
