2 1 Households Debt

3 2 Korea’s household debt today is twice the size of what it was a decade ago. In 2002, household debt totaled 465 trillion won. The loans are growing in size and in lateness - and increasingly, the problem is spilling over to the middle and upper classes. Recent data by the Credit Counseling & Recovery Service showed that among those who applied for debt workout in the first half of this year, 82 percent earned less than 1.5 million won a month, a decline from 88 percent in 2010.
