2 What is a Rubric? A rubric is a charted scoring guide/ grid to evaluate a given work.

5 When to use a rubric Rubrics are used when a judgment of quality is required and may be used to evaluate a broad range of subjects and activities.

6 How to create a rubric 1.To start, identify skills 3-4 skills to be scored. 2.Define the scale of the rubric and use unbiased easy to understand language. 3. Develop distinctive descriptors which are meaningful. 4. Determine valid levels of performance.

7 Activity 1.Choose an assignment. 2.Select a style of rubric (holistic, analytical, checklist). 3.Write and describe your criteria. 4.Create a scale (numeric or qualitative). 5.Map it out on paper

8 7 Good Practices 1.Share your rubric with a colleague for a second opinion. 2.Avoid negative language. 3.Share rubrics with students so that they know and understand your expectations for competencies. 4.Look at other examples. 5.Revise for improvement. 6.Align skills with course, program and institutional goals. 7.Have fun!
