13. Key Comments I loved how we were able to do things that the professionals were able to do. I also appreciated how we were able to have help whenever it was needed and the teachers and mentors found easy, simple ways to explain how to complete given tasks.... Also some mentors were mean (NOT MINE) and a lot of aother HSTA students were hard to get along with. But overall, I had a great time. My mentor was very helpful whenever we had questions about anything. She tried her best to answer them to the best of her ability and she even shared a bit about her work and what she does in class. I found this an inspiration for my future

14. Key Comments BETTER EVENING ACTIVITES AT THE GSC FORENSIC SCIENCE INSTITUTE More strict about the rude behaviors from certain students If we worked with actual college porfessors, it would be more fun and serious.

15. Final Comments Overall this year’s institute was more favorably rated than last year. Mentors, Faculty, Teachers and FSCs, for the most part, received higher ratings. Participants also perceived they learned more from the activities/workshops. Over 80% plan to use the Leadership Skills concept in the upcoming year.

19. Program Highlights The majority of teachers were “Extremely Satisfied” with the SI (  =4.75/2014) vs. (  4.86/2013) Majority were either “Extremely Comfortable” or “Comfortable” with using acquired teaching skills, with the exception of PREZI (  =3.91/2014)

Program Highlights continued When asked about their intent to use techniques, resources and/or content at school or in community, the responses ranged from “Very Little” to “Quite A Bit” – Lowest Rating was for Casting (  =2.75/0.97) – Highest Rating was for Leadership Skills (  =4.33/0.65) 54.50% reported that Prezi would be the most useful resource for their HSTA Club and 90.00% stated that it would be most useful in their Classroom because it is “An excellent tool of presentation” and “We can use this resource for years to come.” (Teacher comments)

21. Program Highlights continued The teachers also reported that they were either “Somewhat Prepared” to “Extremely Prepared” to help students conceive and carry out projects. (  =3.92/0.90 vs.  =4.00/0.82 (2013)) 83.30% vs. 85.71% (2013) reported a gain of ideas for club projects. The majority also reported that the faculty were competent in leading the instructional sessions. (  =4.33/1.23 vs.  =4.57/0.53 (2013))

22. Key Comments This HSTA institute was great. The students were engaged, learning, and having fun together from the very first day through to the very last day. The students were able to participate in hands on learning for the evidence they collected. This camp was excellent. This was the best summer institute I have been involved with in the 7 years I have participated in HSTA. The HSTA program provides me with the oppurtunity to participate in the students educational process. Work shops like these provide the students with a unique opportunity in which they can use the skills they are taught rather than rote memorization of the material. Hands on learning is by far the most effective teaching technique in my experience.
