How do you pronounce the word "Haida"? It's pronounced "HIGH-dah." What does it mean? This is an English pronunciation of their native word Xayda, which means "person."

Where?! The Haida live on a group of islands (Queen Charlotte Islands) off the northern coast of British Columbia near the province's border with Alaska.

Haida Art Art originally made for practical purposes & to share stories (oral history) Everyday materials (spoons, bowls, dishes) were decorated with family crests & symbols Animals were often used in artwork because the Haida respected nature & associated each with meaning

It is revered for its intelligence and great power, as well as its extraordinary vision.
