Industry Environment Liberalisation of the Telecom Sector The Inter Region Interconnection (IRIS) agreement debate in progress Plans are underway to connecting the region with the rest of the world by fiber optic undersea cables such as EASSy and NEPAD Further liberisation of the sector in spearheaded by Uganda which recently decided to end the duopoly of MTN and UTL The Telecom Sector in the Region
