BACKGROUND January 2004 - Adoption of “Declaration on International S&T Cooperation for Sustainable Development” by the OECD Ministers of Science and Technology aimed at strengthening International S&T cooperation for Sustainable Development. May 2004 - Proposal to host the workshop was made at the 83rd OECD CSTP session and member countries were invited to be on Steering Group. October 2004 - A steering Group comprising 12 OECD member countries was formed: Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, UK, US and South Africa Oct 2004, Dec 2004 and Feb 2005 - Steering Group Meetings.

10. OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP 1.To identify good practices in international science and technology co-operation, especially between OECD and developing countries, aiming at fostering capacity-building in science and technology, at facilitating effective diffusion of scientific knowledge and technology transfer, and at developing knowledge infrastructure and networks, in order to meet sustainable development objectives at national and global levels. 2.To consider possible indicators of good practices in international science and technology co-operation for sustainable development and methodologies to evaluate international science and technology co- operation initiatives.
