Narrative Text Narrative text is text that is written to tell a story Narrative text includes fiction text, like stories Narrative text also includes some kinds of nonfiction, like biographies

Narrative Text Narrative text includes story elements such as characters, setting, plot, theme, and conflict Narratives have a beginning, a middle, and an end

Poetic Text Poetic text is…well, poetry! Poetic text looks different from narratives What are some elements of poetic text?

Poetic Text Poetic text often uses sound devices such as rhyme and alliteration Poetic text also uses figurative language such as similes, metaphors, and personification

Informational Text Informational text is written to give information Informational text includes directions, articles, and other texts written to explain new ideas

Informational Text Informational text includes text features like headings, titles, captions, photographs, diagrams, and so forth

Informational Text Some kinds of informational text can be called EXPOSITORY text Expository text is informational text that is written using a text structure like compare and contrast, description, cause and effect, or so on

Persuasive Text Persuasive text is text written to persuade someone to do something or think in a certain way

What kind of text? This text is informational text It is written to give information Notice that it has a title and a heading All About Snowflakes Snowflakes are beautiful crystals. They form when tiny cloud droplets freeze. Kinds of snowflakes Did you know that there are different kinds of snowflakes? Depending on what it is like inside the cloud, snowflakes can be flat plates or long columns.

Author’s Purpose Authors write these kinds of text for three main purposes TO INFORM TO PERSUADE TO ENTERTAIN
