1 Living Organisms carry out life processes in order to survive.
The human body is complex. Cells Tissues Organs Systems

2 Living Organisms carry out life processes in order to survive
Cell = basic unit of life Tissue = group of similar cells that work together to perform a function Organ = group of different tissues that work together to carry out a function in the body System = group of organs that work together to perform a function to meet material and energy requirements

3 Living Organisms carry out life processes in order to survive
The body’s systems interact with one another. HOMEOSTASIS The ability of your body to maintain internal conditions.

4 Living Organisms carry out life processes in order to survive
HOMEOSTASIS Keeps the following balanced…. Body temperature Amount of blood sugar Posture (There are other examples.)

5 Living Organisms carry out life processes in order to survive.
The body’s systems interact with one another. Body Systems Skeletal Muscular Cardiovascular Respiratory Digestive Nervous Endocrine Urinary Integumentary Reproductive

6 The body’s systems interact with one another.
Skeletal System = interacts with muscles & cardiovascular system PRODUCES BLOOD MOVEMENT Axial Skeleton = skull, rib cage, backbone Appendicular Skeleton = shoulders, hips, arms, legs Joints = free moving, immovable, slightly movable

7 The body’s systems interact with one another.
Muscular System = interacts with skeletal and nervous systems MOVEMENT BODY TEMPERATURE MOVEMENT POSTURE

8 The body’s systems interact with one another.
Muscular System = interacts with skeletal and nervous systems Skeletal Muscle = voluntary triceps rectus abdominus Smooth Muscle = involuntary digestive system arteries, veins Cardiac Muscle = involuntary heart

9 The body’s systems interact with one another.
Muscular System = interacts with skeletal and nervous systems Skeletal muscles & tendons allow bones to move. Tendons = strong tissues that attached muscles to bones As fibers in a muscle contract, they shorten and pull the tendon. The tendon then pulls the bone.

10 Muscles work with nerves to produce movement.
Muscular System = interacts with skeletal and nervous systems Muscles work with nerves to produce movement. Communication between the nerve cells and muscle cells produce muscle contractions. The communication involves the diffusion of elements in and out of the muscle and nerve cells (active transport) High Low or Low High
