2 Environmental Studies & Sustainability Program was started in 2009 Offers AS in Environmental Studies & Sustainability The Energy Technology Program housed in ESS but moving to construction technology program The program also serves as the focal point for campus sustainability activities Program won the Sierra Business Council – Vision Award 2010

3 Energy Technology Program Found in 2009 as part of the ESS Program We offer 4 courses in Energy We offer 2 certificates in Photovoltaics We teach a 2 course sequence leading to NABCEP Entry Level readiness We also teach one advanced course ESS 34

4 ESS 34 – Advanced Photovoltaics ESS 30 & 32 – NABCEP preparation with a focus on residential grid-tie systems ESS 34 – focus on design, off-grid and commercial systems All PV classes are hands-on with ESS 34 having a significant project component

5 ESS 34 & Facilities Partnership Facilities Division’s creation of a sustainability fund ESS 34 need for projects post grant funding Partnership developed to do commercial level installations on campus

7 Corporation Yard Carport Project The project when completed will be: – 99 (175w panels) roughly 18kw system – @ $8.70 per watt full installation price – Full system value $100,000+ Additional system components include (3) Sunny Boy 6000w inverters Total project cost to the college roughly $18,000

11 Benefits of the Partnership 1.Giving students an opportunity for hands on commercial project experience. 2.Integration and collaboration breeds great familiarity between operations and instruction. 3.Allowed new opportunities for creativity and innovation (sustainability fund). 4.Raise awareness across campus about renewable energy and the ESS Program. 5.Positive press for the college
