The general public think we look like this…
3
The commissioners think we look like this…
4
Our straight friends think we should look like this…
5
But really we are like this…??????????
6
What we should be doing is this…
7
What some MSM are doing is…
8
Posters National TV campaign using shock tactics Leaflets Condoms & lube Face to face outreach/121s Scaring the bejesus out of MSM
9
Target audience increasingly split into separate communities of interest Different bars/events aimed at communities Websites making it easier for MSM to find their specialist interest Even specialist Pride/Gay targeted events…Folsom, Bearcelona, Hustlaball Changes in MSM culture?
10
Mobile internet…
11
Gay niche/fetish websites…
12
Medical interventions…
14
Get a presence on the most popular generalist sites/apps and the most popular niche sites/apps Think about what target audiences and/or SMARPs you want to reach Use their technology to reach MSM, i.e. GROWLr SHOUT! – broadcast messages or use a passive approach to reduce cost, i.e. BBRTS
16
Use popular general social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and your own websites to spread articles, news, create dialogues with your target audience (invite them to discuss) Create content: YouTube, podcasts, vodcasts Short, snappy & funny. Have a human face to the organisation…
17
Declining use of cruising outdoors HUGE increase in virtual cruising & sauna use Maybe not so many men met at PSE…however condom and lube needed PSE targets MSM not traditionally accessing “gay” virtual cruising? Sauna outreach HUGELY important accessing SMARPS
19
MSM should be able to access supplies in bars, saunas, cruising areas, events & while expensive …through the post. Postal condoms means cost effective targeting MSM in rural areas, MSM who don’t access LGB&T* venues & distributing specialist condoms/sizes.
20
Internet driving an increase in MSM self- organisation for social groups and niche interests Gay-led organisations to facilitate groups meeting as much as possible if venues needed and take a step back from generating them Access groups offering training and/or tap into their networks for condom packing or other community engagement activities Training sessions open to all MSM on better gay sex etc, a great way to engage with MSM not in groups
22
On as many platforms as possible, bearing in mind financial and systemic constraints… Being innovative and attention grabbing No longer creating social groups but accessing groups Being approachable and responsive to new challenges In short…Being TOTAL attention whores
