How many times have you taken a selfie?

How would you describe a self portrait?

Their selfies reflect their style of art.

David Hockney – Self- Portrait With Charlie (1995) Hockney is ruthless in his self-portraits; he never poses or tries to look good. What he does is to record the act of self-portraiture – the fact of a painter looking in a mirror and trying to record what he sees – and give it a deliberately awkward material truth. In doing so, he paints the ideal of honest observation.

. To stand in front of this painting is to be scrutinised and found wanting. Rembrandt looks at you with eyes that are dark portals of consciousness, memory and time. He is paused in the act of painting, dressed in the robes of a master. The enigmatic circles behind him represent a world he is making. The richness of the paint is somehow incidental to the shocking, undeniable feeling that a real person looms before you. Rembrandt is a magus; his spell heals and inspires.Rembrandt

. Self-portraiture takes new forms in the art of Tracey Emin. This gleeful selfie was made after she became famous for My Bed, which was shortlisted for the Turner prize in 1999. My Bed is itself an expressionist, readymade sel f-portrait. Emin's art is all about her. That is what makes it powerful – because when all is said and done, her own life is a bloody good subject.readymade

. The muses are female in ancient Greek mythology. For 17th-century painter Artemisia Gentileschi, one of the few women to have a successful career in art in early modern Europe, this was an opportunity. Where a male artist might show himself portraying a woman dressed up as a muse or with a picture of a muse behind him, Gentileschi can show herself personifying painting. Yet any acceptance of a subordinate allegorical role is fiercely contradicted by her tough, muscular image. Painting is a woman, painting is a hero, painting is a worker.

. Norman Rockwell is a well known illustrator. His paintings were featured on the covers of The Saturday Evening Post and reproduced and sold world wide. He used friends, neighbors, and people from his town to model for his iconic paintings of America. In his self portrait he has three different view of himself. The portrait he is painting is a much younger version of himself. He also incorporated props that he used in some of his illustrations.

. Justin Beiber’s fame may allow him to get away with a shirtless selfie…..

. But if you are not famous, you may want to avoid them.

. Is this the image you want to portray?

. Poor taste: American teenager Breanna Mitchell tweeted a smiling selfie at Auschwitz

. Pay attention to the background. You may end up with more than you bargained for.

. Outdoors For Dummies: Bear 'Selfies' a Bad Idea Sometimes a hungry bear gets lucky … and one less dunderhead in the human gene pool is never a bad thing.

. There are moments in life that are so monumentally significant and yet you don’t even know it until they’re past. It happens a lot, and then the moment is lost to the annals of our memory. But when you have a smartphone, and a finger quick to draw, you can find yourself documenting the most unbelievable moments: Such as your last moments of life.

. James Crowlett, 34, was on his honeymoon, and hours away from flying back home when the ocean called to him. He just wanted to go for a quick dip, take a selfie underwater and show off to his friends. The photo was uploaded to his Facebook page automatically, and unfortunately that shark was real. As you can see in the photo the shark is ready to strike, and it did just a moment later. It tore of Crowlett’s leg off before lifeguards managed to get to him. He died on the way to the hospital after losing massive quantities of blood.
