NEED HELP??? We are offering weekly Math 6 help sessions every Thursday morning, starting after Labor Day! 8:15-8:45am The schedule is posted on the blog, and students also have a copy of the tutoring schedule in their MSGs. Additional help for Math 6/7 will begin after Labor Day, and will be held after school 1 day per week as needed.

SCHOOL RULES Dress Code (see Student Agenda and green handout) –The following is not acceptable…holes in any garment, leggings/jeggings (worn under a skirt/dress/shorts or alone), pajama pants, flip flops, sport slides, tank tops Behavior ~ PBIS Appropriate behavior is essential to a successful school year. This especially includes following directions and having a positive attitude! REP Bucks Consequences in Agenda (see student agenda!)

Rewards & Discipline Rewards: Honor Roll (each semester) REP Bucks Student of the Month Shout-outs on the blog Discipline: Consequence checklist in agenda –1 st offense: warning –2 nd offense: call home –3 rd offense: isolation, call home –4 th offense: referral

Math Supplies Bring daily: Agenda MSG (Math Survival Guide) Textbook (or check for sign outside door) Folder for papers Pencil Paper Keep in the classroom: Glue and/or tape

Morning Procedures Breakfast (must go before homeroom) 8:45 – 9:05 Lockers / Restroom Break (Before Homeroom) Homeroom 8:45 – 9:10 ECTV Morning Announcements 9:10 – 9:15

Classroom Procedures Agenda –Write homework daily Warmup or Wordy Wednesday Check homework –Homework is assigned almost every Monday – Thursday, and will typically take about 20 minutes. –When in doubt check the Math blog! Daily Assignments –Activator –Learning new skills and practicing those skills –Closing / Homework Quiz or Test EVERY Friday!

Got Work? Make-up Work –It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that all work is made up. –Check the Math Blog –Number of days absent plus one additional day to turn in work. Late Work –Students who turn in late work will receive partial credit. –10 points will be deducted for each day late (up to three days)

Grading Grading Procedures 25% Daily Work (classwork, warm-ups) 30% Formative Assessments (quizzes, performance tasks) 10% Homework/Online Practice 35% Summative Assessments (tests & projects) Grading Scale A 90 – 100 B 80 – 89 C 74 – 79 D 70 – 73 F 0 - 69

Grading Progress Reports & Report Cards 1 st 6 Weeks Progress…….. 9/18 2 nd 6 Weeks Progress…..…11/6 1 st Semester Report Card….1/8 4 th 6 Weeks Progress…..…2/26 5 th 6 Weeks Progress……..4/15 2 nd Sem. Report Card (mailed).. 6/1 Honor Roll All A’s or A’s and B’s AND ALL S’s in conduct Pass vs. Fail Retention is likely if a student fails 3 classes in 6 th grade. This is determined by averaging the grades for both semesters. For example, if Little Johnny makes a 65 in math for Semester 1, he needs a 75 in math for Semester 2 to have a 70 (passing) average for the year.

Math 6 Curriculum

Advanced Math 6 Curriculum *Students must maintain 80 test average to continue on this math track!! Advanced Math 6 First SemesterSecond Semester Number System Fluency Rate, Ratio & Proportion Expressions One-Step Equations & Inequalities Area & Volume Statistics Rational Explorations Operations with Rational Numbers Show What You Know

Math 6/7 Curriculum *Students must maintain 85 test average to continue on this math track!! CCGPS Accelerated Math 67 First SemesterSecond Semester Number System Fluency Rate, Ratio & Proportions Expressions 1-Step Equations & Inequalities Area & Volume Statistics Rational Explorations Operations with Rational Numbers Expressions & Equations Ratios & Proportional Reasoning Show What You Know

MATH – How can you help your child be successful? Make sure your child is completing nightly homework PLEASE don’t say, “I was never good at math either.” That often makes it seem like the kids have a “pass.” Check the blog for fun games and videos if your child isn’t proficient Make sure your child is studying for Friday’s quiz/test Use the MSG!! (The study guide for the unit is already there!!) Be knowledgeable of the topics your child is learning, and point them out in everyday situations. Show them math in the “real world” to help them see the relevance. Ask your child to show you what he or she is learning

Unit 1 At A Glance Long Division Greatest Common Factor/ Least Common Multiple Decimal Operations Division of Fractions (by using both visual models and using algorithm)

Unit 2 At A Glance Rates, Ratios and Proportions Unit Rates Visual models of rates, ratios and proportions Converting customary and metric

Unit 3 At A Glance Writing and interpreting expressions Translate words into expressions (2 times a number= 2x) Order of Operations (PEMDAS) Distributive Property Identify equivalent expressions (8x+4= 2(4x+2)) Use substitution to evaluate formulas

Unit 4 At A Glance Substitute to check the solution of an equation Write equations from real world problems Solve equations from real world problems Write, graph and solve inequality statements Use equations, tables and graphs to show relationships between variables

Unit 5 At A Glance Decompose irregular polygons to find area Represent 3D shapes with nets Use nets to find surface area Find volume of rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths Apply concepts of area, surface area and volume to solve real world math problems

Unit 6 At A Glance Recognize statistical questions Read, interpret and make dot plots Read, interpret and make histograms Read, interpret and make box plots Calculate and interpret central tendencies (mean, median, mode, range and interquartile range)

Unit 7 At A Glance Describe real world situations using positive and negative numbers Represent numbers as locations on a number line Understand opposite numbers Graph ordered pairs in all 4 quadrants Interpret inequalities Order rational numbers Absolute Value Determine Distance between points on a coordinate plane Draw polygons on a coordinate plane given coordinates for vertices
