Highlights of Computing Group Start Enterprise resource planning ERP Project for administration and other sectors Scientific Linux upgrade to 6.4 distribution (Kickstart) Website upgrade and migration to Joomla 2.5 Network (Active and Passive components) installation for Booster network. New NAS storage installation (12 TB) Upgrade SESAME intranet CMS to the latest released version (Plone 4) Implement secures SSH gateway to SESAME staff with public/private authentication. Software and licensing: Opera Software, Matlab, CAD license server. SESAME-ESRF collaboration on scientific computing, visits for SCORE, train the trainer and Advances HPC applications. New CPU/GPU hardware Tesla K20 LinkSCEEM: Completed a successful 3rd year of LinkSCEEM project covering disseminations and outreach, website and 3rd SESAME-LinkSCEEM summer school. WP12: Hiring of Zubair Nawaz to develop SR applications. 4Salman Matalgah SAC 2013

Computing - Control updates & concerns We do meet with control group twice a month Provided the needed IT infrastructure on demands and addressing the lack of technical needs New Linux distribution of SL6.4 ( next slide) 5Salman Matalgah SAC 2013
6
New Linux distribution (SL6.4) KS for both SL5.2 and 6.4 is there Moving the old SL5.2 system to SL6.4 Closed repository with customization No updates allowed Validation from control group under the process Plan to move on LINUX disro is necessary 6Salman Matalgah SAC 2013
7
LinkSCEEM Project is on track, 3 nd EC review Done, SESAME is strategic partner as WP5 leader. Many outreach activities done on HPC and SR. International Conference on Scientific Computing 2013, Paphos, Cyprus, 3 - 6 December 2013. Successful third SESAME-LinkSCEEM summer school (SR+DFT+HPC). ESRF visit, SCORE program is started (next slide) 7Salman Matalgah SAC 2013

Extension Suggested by ESRF Porting Spline method to GPU – Its main objective is to reduce the data transfer from CPU to GPU which will lead to fast performance Reduction of Memory transfer time – By exploiting the coalesced memory access from the global memory Automatic detection of diffraction rings – Currently, it is semi-automatic, – By doing it fully automatically will reduce the processing time and accuracy. Salman Matalgah SAC 20138
9
Current Status Porting Spline method to GPU – Work in progress on the OpenCL code for Spline method Automatic detection of diffraction rings – Some new algorithms to detect the diffraction rings fully automatically are being tried with the help of a PhD student. Once successful, it will be ported to GPU. Salman Matalgah SAC 20139

Challenges & needs New servers/cloud, SLA it not sufficient Technician ERP implementations. Connectivity with fiber/good bandwidth Building capacity in SC computing Storage ring/BLs active, passive and computing resources Salman Matalgah SAC 201310
