CITYOPT 1 Holistic simulation & optimisation of energy systems in Smart Cities
2
CITYOPT Develop implementation and recommendation to carry conception, renovation and management of energy systems in neighborhood and cities The approach focuses on the user so it can ensure application and implementation respond to user different needs (citizens, decision maker, building manager...) 3 pilot sites will allow to test the CITYOPT solutions during the different phases of a neighborhoud lifecycle Finland : during conception phase (new neighborhood to build) Austria : during renovation phase (existing neighborhood to renovate) France : during operation management phase (existing neighborood pre-equipped) 2 Project description
3
CITYOPT 7 partners from 4 countries : VTT – Technical Research Centre of Finland - Finland – Coordinator AIT – Austrian Institute of Technology – Austria CSTB – Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment – France Experientia – Italy EDF – Électricité de France – France City of Helsinki– Finland Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur – France 3 Consortium
4
CITYOPT Call identifier FP7-SMARTCITIES-2013 Starting date 1 st February 2014 Duration 36 months Budget 3 913 397 € 4 Characteristics
5
CITYOPT A set of applications and guidelines supporting efficient planning, detailed design and operation of energy system in urban districts Energy system optimization in different lifecycle phases, considering user and stakeholder characteristics 5 Project objectives
6
CITYOPT 6 Pilots Helsinki, Finland Vienna, Austria Nice Côte d’Azur, France
7
CITYOPT 7 Pilots Combined heat power
8
CITYOPT The project adresses energy system optimisation in different licecycle phases, supported by a user-centered design approach. Stakeholders : - City decision makers facility involved in all project phases - Managers - Citizens 8 The approach
9
CITYOPT Within GRID4EU program, EDF has previously worked for NICE GRID, a 30M€ project equipping : - Residential customers ERDF linky smart meters; - Tertiary buildings with netSeenergy meters; - Installing local photovoltaic energy production units and storage (thermal and battery) units all before the end of 2013. Project was held in the city of CARROS, within Métropole NCA territory 9 From NICE GRID to CITYOPT
10
CITYOPT Nice Côte d’Azur case study 10
11
CITYOPT Focus on optimization scenarios related to demand response services, more especially load shedding, to reinforce the continuity of service in a fragile electricity supply network. Users will play a key role by participating in the specifications (participatory design) of the technological solution (especially of user interfaces for impact visualisation), and behaviors will be carefully assessed during the test phase. 11 Objectives for Nice Côte d’Azur
12
CITYOPT EDF Electricity metering Social energy network CITYOPT SERVER NCA Pilot infrastructure Consomption OR EDF provides information on consomption under a defined format
13
CITYOPT Helsinki Case Study 13
14
CITYOPT Evaluate different electricity storage solutions/business models in the Kalasatama area of Helsinki. Different technologies, sizing and placement of electric storage solutions will be analyzed and the optimal storage solution will be examined by using the CITYOPT applications. The use of the applications in a district planning phase will be tested and analysed in this demonstration case. 14 Helsinki objectives
15
CITYOPT Vienna Case Study 15
16
CITYOPT Vienna objectives AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology), RTA (Rail Tec Arsenal) and WWFF (Vienna Business Agency), will investigate the optimal design and possible implementation of a concept to integrate the buildings, their existing energy supply and storage systems and use the waste heat to cover the office buildings demand for heating and cooling Reduce RTA expenses for cooling It will include the requirements on the thermal storage to match the time dependence of waste heat production with that of heat demand. 16
17
CITYOPT Next steps for NCA pilot – July 2014 – December 2014: Recruitment (50 households with electrical heating and smart meter) – 1st semester 2015 : beginning of the experimentation 17
18
CITYOPT Conclusion CITYOPT Complete the existing « smart grid ready charter » Build up for new projects H2020 : SNAPY (Santander and Nice Associated to Promote a novel smarter citY concept) Focus on the links between ICT, Energy Efficiency and user behaviour 18
