A: 1A: Site is near a residential area. 1B: 1B: Existing trees were considered when planning heating, cooling, and day lighting. 1C: 1C: A solar calculator was used to map out the sun’s movement across the site, for heating and cooling reasons. 1D: 1D: Storm water is collected to water a rain garden. 1E: 1E: The site selected is not usable farm land, available for public park, or a habitat for endangered species.

A: 2A: A storm water harvesting system is installed to collect rain water to be used for household needs. 2B: 2B: Grey water is harvested from showers, laundry and cooking for irrigation. 2C: 2C: Composting toilet to save water, and recycle nutrients, to help irrigate the land on the site. 2D: 2D: Low flow toilet to use less water per flush. 2E: 2E: Ultra low faucets are installed to reduce water use.

A: 3A: Windows were laid out to maximize the amount of sunlight into the home. 3B: 3B: Non-CFC refrigeration is used to reduce ozone depletion. 3C: 3C: Shades are used to block unwanted heat to reduce the use of air-conditioning. 3D: 3D: Environmentally friendly HVAV system. 3E: 3E: Metering equipment was installed to monitor energy use to increase long-term efficiencies.

A: 4A: Fifty percent of all finished materials used came from with-in a 500-mile radius. 4B: 4B: Cotton was used for insulation in the walls, which is a rapidly renewable material. 4C: 4C: Bamboo was used for flooring, which is a rapidly renewable material. 4D: 4D: The carpet is made up of recycled materials. 4E: 4E: The drywall is made up of recycled materials.

A: 5A: Carbon dioxide monitor was installed. 5B: 5B: Amount of outdoor air ventilated into interior spaces was increased by thirty percent. 5C: 5C: Low emitting VOC adhesives and sealants were used. 5D: 5D: Low VOC emitting paints were used. 5E: 5E: Carpeting is a part of the Green Label Plus program.

A: 6A: Ice is produced during the week daytime hours, when no one is home, which conditions the air when the family is home. 6B: 6B: Insulation was increased to keep in heat and cold air for comfort. 6C: 6C: 75% of the roof surface has a solar reflective index of 78. 6D: 6D: The building was oriented to maximize daylight use. 6E: 6E: Solar electric and wind technologies are used for emergency power.
