Size of internet Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google estimated the data in internet around 5 million terabytes. 155 million websites on the Internet. 75 million servers worldwide Google has indexed roughly 200 terabytes of that, or.004% of the total size. About 500 million use the Internet at least once a week.

Information & communication Technology The ease of communication along with the Internet, has brought a paradigm shift in information usage from the need to know basis – information available when and where you need it. Digital publishing technologies and global networking have given rise to the development of higher education. “Ten years ago we saw the convergence of the human- readable Web with increased connectivity. Now we are seeing communicating applications and more pervasive, broadband connectivity. The world is flatter because computing and communications is more pervasive of our working and learning lives: we create, share and use digital content and services”.

Open source software can be used freely without having to pay license fees to its developers. SourceForge.org, which provides ready access to over 60,000 open source software projects.

OSS INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVES Open Source Initiative (OSI) is a non-profit corporation (California public benefit corporation) formed to educate about and advocate for the benefits of open source and to build bridges among different constituencies in the open- source community. Free Software Foundation (FSF) is a nonprofit with worldwide mission to promote computer user freedom and to defend the rights of all free software users. ROSI – Romanian Open Source and Free Software Initiative, was formed by a community of people, acting at their best to develop and sustain a healthy Free Software. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) created the International Open Source Network (IOSN) with the goal of helping developing countries in the Asia-Pacific Region achieve rapid and sustained economic and social development by using free and open source software.
