Our mission is rescue animals from other shelters that may be at risk of being euthanized due to illness, injury, or lack of socialization or training. We also promote responsible animal ownership through spay and neuter services. We do not accept strays.

The shelter itself has been open since 2005. However Pet Pal, formerly Pet Pal Rescue has been around since the mid 80’s. It began in Orlando and then moved to St. Petersburg in the 90’s where we operated out of Petsmart until we were able to open the shelter.

We do not kill any animals, which makes us different. We try to take in as much animals as we can. There are only two exceptions that trigger us to take such action: The animal is seriously sick, beyond recovery with no other option but to put it out of its misery The animal is beyond aggressive which cannot be reversed.

Complete a Volunteer Application and bring to the shelter, clinic, or thrift store. You can download the application or fill one out at one of our locations. A Volunteer Coordinator will be in contact with you by phone or email to set up a time for your orientation. After your orientation is complete, the Volunteer Coordinator will set up a volunteer schedule that works for you.

Be a positive role model and make sure your animals are up to date on their vaccines and are spayed or neutered Make up an animal care booklet that can be handed out to children. Arrange for a Pet Pal representative to speak to your class, Girl Scout troop, etc. Make bandanas for the dogs. Have a birthday party gift drive: Ask party guests to bring an item from our wish list. Koins for Kitties or Dimes for Doggies: Collect spare change for our animals(remember a little goes a long way)! Put together a donation drive for items on our wish list. Post Pet Pal information at dog parks. Raise money with a dog wash, car wash, or bake sale.
