11 Why a Community College? Navigating the system can be confusing! Many options – BUT… Is the school accredited? Do they offer degrees? Can you transfer your credits? Do you need a TOEFL or IELTS? How do you know if it is a good school? Starting at a community college can help you transition to American culture, improve your English, and start with smaller classes and more one-on-one attention.
12
12 Why a Community College? A community college, also known as a two-year or junior college, offers the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Community colleges also offer career-technical programs, certificate programs, and non-credit community programming. Many students choose to complete an associate degree at a community college and then “transfer” to a four-year university/college. Other students complete certificates that prepare them for immediate employment upon graduation.
